Got hired today. I'll be operating the beloved Vortex.

I had a great time when I worked that ride. I hope you love sign language. That is one coaster that has a number of easy signs to master to communicate to the driver, as you will constantly be using and reading them.

You'll also be working on the Kaleidoscope, aka Scrambler if the ride work combinations are still the same.
Everyone gets at least two rides, if not three, to rotate around throughout their shift.

Congratulations to all of you who got hired!
The park life is so interesting.
Right now we are only open Fri., Sat., & Sun. but we are now interviewing people to staff the park for when we are open everyday. If you are still thinking about applying, read post #1 to this thread and bust a move!

Remember you are still an employee.

Some guest sometimes desire a little more from associates that assisting them on and off rides.
Some will ask what time your shift ends so they can ride rides with you. Some will even give you their contact information. While many of these incidences can be totally innocent, be very careful with your generosity that you don't end up in a scandal and loose your job.

I have been offered one on one ride invitations from a married female - whose husband and child were somewhere in the park, bedroom eyes, phone numbers, tips, and even other places of employment, to leave Carowinds, because they liked my professional attitude.

Be very careful what you allow yourself to get involved with.
Be kind but firm with the guest when it get down to off-the-clock extra-curricular activities.

It is best NOT to date coworkers for similar reasons that Phantom said. I dated a coworker, and let me tell ya'll, things got interesting in Kiddyland and Thrill Zone between a good portion of the Ride Ops.

No wonder Carowinds does not tolerate romantic relationships with supervisors. It's just more drama to the work week. As if supervising employees, scheduling their breaks and ride positions throughout each day, clearing up problems among the team, and assisting guest with their issues, isn't enough. Throw in the "Love Bug" that has slowly transformed into a venomous snake and you've got a great mix for high drama on the J.O.B. my friend.

A bad dating breakup can be like a horrible divorce. Couples go from being highly fond and respectful of each other to trying to hurt each other badly.
Is there a dating prenup out there somewhere?

LOL this topic went in a direction I never saw coming.... I think that if you "date" a co-worker you just need to put that behind you while you are working. Me and my, now wife, worked together a long time ago at harris teeter and it was fine. I think if you work in different areas or if you have different schedules then a co-worker relationship is fine... Oh well

I dated a girl on my crew at CP for both of my years there. The second year I was a team leader and she was still just a regular associate. I wouldn't wish that kind of added stress and complications on anyone. It sucked. People accusing me of favoring her, having fights during work (as Anthony said), trying to make sure the manager didn't find out about it, etc. We broke up less than a month after the 2008 season, largely because of the rift caused by that stress. It's really not worth it.

Remember the key words, "If it doesn't work out it could turn ugly." I'm happy your's worked out for you. Not all places have a problem with coworker dating. But as you know, not all relationships work, and not all relationships end peacefully.

Guess they have paper towels and hand sanitizer for when you get off the ride now. (and mouthwash too.)
