I certainly respect park rules when it comes to taking cameras on rides, but was perplexed during my visit to Lagoon Amusement Park (near Salt Lake City) a couple weeks ago. They apparently do not have this policy. People had cameras on just about every ride there and no one said a thing. It was really nice to finally visit a park with such a laid back attitude and traditional charm all in one. I realize that Carowinds is in a different arena when it comes to comparing the two, but still......Lagoon has some pretty wild rides and coasters.

I think you will find that most smaller non-corporate parks (except for Holiday World) are pretty lax on the rules (Knoebels, Canobie, Lakeside etc)

Hmmm interesting I live 20 minutes from Lagoon and they used to be relaxed about loose articles but they had some incidents with a purse and a backpack last year. I however film POVS there cause I have written permission to film on the rides from the owner himself David Freed. But I use a Gopro with Chest Mount strap so it is not not considered a loose article. I really like Disney for being so relaxed and letting you film on their rides.

As noted several times it is safety. The fact is it may "seem secure" but that doesn't mean it really is.

If people can't properly secure their money on Intimidator, there's simply no hope they'll be able to properly secure a camera.

I can see bringing cameras on rides as a safety issue, as in p&s cameras. Since there's nothing to hold them besides using your own hands. On the other hand, GoPro are extremely durable if you secure them the right way. You can use a wrist band or a chest harness. Using a chest harness for GoPro would probably be the best since there's no way for it to even come off. But Carowinds doesn't even allow any type of filming.

I think GoPro's should just be allowed, and who doesn't know what a GoPro looks like? I heard filming isn't even allowed on the water rides because of "potential" water damage. If someone decides they want to destroy their camera then so be it. GoPro's are waterproof.

Then some people say "just let the park film videos". Well I guess the park will just get the views on the videos and make a few hundred on each. Although, you told them to record the videos.


I suggest to just ask for permission before doing so or just film at a different park. Busch Gardens and Water Country USA both seem to be lax on filming.

Carowinds PR has already settled this, even with the GoPro. Rules are their for YOUR safety and the safety of other visitors. Even cameras mounted by professional videographers have came loose of their mountings.

They are extremely concerned about safety. The last filming I was involved with at Carowinds, they had to zip tie the gopro camera that was mounted to me and it had to be approved by one of the upper management before we could go on the ride. Those cases can come open and they want everybody to be safe.

I wish people would stop bringing up the topic of on-ride videos.

Besides, no one wants to watch the expressions of pimply kids while climbing a lift. I've seen way too many crappy POVs.
