Carowinds locomotive Melodia is owned by Rob Rossi. https://www.google.com/amp/s/pcrailroad ... -no-3/amp/

It gets to pull the former coaches from Disneyland!

Ton of permits issued yesterday, they include 2 Shade Structures, the Launch / Retail Building, the storage track / maintenance building, the station building, and the locker building. Once this Hurricane passes, we should see this project really pick up steam.

I’ve seen questions like this pop up everywhere the past couple days. First the storm will weaken once it makes landfall and certainly by the time it hits Charlotte. The bigger point to make is roller coasters are built to withstand strong storms such as hurricanes. The park will be perfectly fine. Nighthawk isn’t getting blown away unfortunately, Copperhead Strike footers are staying put lol.

I will never understand why y’all hate Nighthawk so much. Maybe it’s just me, but every ride I’ve had on it has been extremely fun and relatively (in terms of Vekomas) smooth. Maybe it’s a weight thing? I pretty much have the physique of a starving Nubian child, so I’m not pressed up against the seats during the “fly” sections.

I wouldn’t say I “hate” it, but X-Flight and Batwing are in much better condition, I get Nighthawk was a prototype but still anytime there is room for improvement at the park, which there is plenty, it’s fun to speculate what we’d like to see the space used for. We can still defend the parks rides but honestly yeah I don’t really care for it like I did when it first opened. The most offensive thing about Nighthawk though that keeps me from riding it is the embarrassing loading times. Why is it running one train with five minute dispatches so often? The setting is nice so when the time does come I hope they retain that look and add an amazing attraction. The coaster suits the area well, miles better than next to a parking lot or in front of the water park like some others.

Nighthawk is one of the most photogenic rides in the park. 1 train operations during the week is about normal during peak season. You mainly see 2 train operations during Fri-Sun, Holidays, and of course Scarowinds. Honestly it's more reliable with 1 train. If only the ride had lockers, the dispatches would definitely improve.

I Would love to see Copperhead Strike, Intimidator, and Nighthawk Join Fury with the Locker program. These rides don't need anymore hold ups. All cell phones, bags of all sorts, and loose articles in general are annoying. Also children that are not tall enough should not come in the line either. Having children cross the train and parents leaving them on the exit side with no supervision is a problem as well. Only thing I feel is ok bringing in line is park purchased light snacks, or drinks/souvenir cups. Fanny packs are okay because you can wear them.

Literally the worst case scenario is that the park is so severely damaged that it has to be shuttered for the remainder of the season while repairs are performed, and even that is *extremely* unlikely.

Hurricane Hugo closed Carowinds for 10 days in 1989 doing damage to roofs and such.

However this hurricane isn’t Hugo, Hugo was a Cat 4 when it slammed into SC near Charleston and was “slingshoted” past Charlotte as the Cat 1. Florence is a Cat 2 that may land around Wilmington and head South as a Cat 1 then turn west as tropical storm possibly stalling over SC/NC. I dare say that Hugo’s wind and strength caused the widespread damage whereas inland Carolinas will be subject to rain mainly.

I am more concerned for Swamp Fox and Family Kingdom. Carowinds will be fine, maybe some mud to clean up.
