What. Who has ever made out Charlotte to be "dangerous"? Charlotte does not have high crime rates. It's pretty comparable to peer cities like Jacksonville, Tampa, Denver, Seattle, etc. And why are you calling those areas "ghettos"? Those neighborhoods are poorer and have a lot of black people in them if that's what you mean.

Charlotte is a bland soulless banking center with a handful of small interesting neighborhoods but mainly endless suburban cul-de-sacs. There is Carowinds, though, and it's cheap to live there. Most people seem to love it. This is sort of trolling to get a rise out of people on here, but I doubt I would ever move back there.

Yeah, Charlotte doesn't have a lot of crime. If you just want to be in the metro area, it's even cheaper to live in South Carolina, like Fort Mill or Rock Hill.

Best part about Charlotte is that it has mild winters and milder summers than coastal NC (not nearly as humid), along with it being about 3 hours from the beach one way and the mountains the other way. Additionally we are 3 1/2 hours from Dollywood, 4 1/2 hours from SFOG, 5 1/2 hours from BGW and KD.

We have been in the metro area since 2000 and like it here although we don't fit into the 'love it' here group. We are already planning our exit strategy in about 10 years, though, but that's primarily because of the North Carolina government and not because of Charlotte.

I watched a whole documentary on the Hidden Valley Kings, they also have the Crips & the Bloods as most big cities do, and some people on City Data where talking about how dangerous it was. We live in Mississippi, the worst state in the country, so if we see people talking about how "great" their city/state is, we start looking into it, because we are trying to get out of MS. We've also considered Knoxville, Atlanta, Charleston, & Chattanooga.

I guess we will go for that.

Like I said, I like the ghetto, but I don't want to live somewhere TOO dangerous. It sounds crazy that we like the ghetto, but that's just...our personality. For example, I was born in a neighborhood that is considered "the ghetto" (in a town of 50,000 people in Mississippi) , and we can still drive through there and feel safe, but if we had to take a route through East New Orleans (where the Six Flags was), we would turn back in an instant. Living in the ghetto also helps my rapping (quote on quote) "career" ...sounds stupid but that way I look at it is that if you don't have dreams, you'll never make it...

We will look more into Charleston, if you would like to post your thoughts on Charleston go ahead.

The Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, etc.) area isn't too bad. There's a lot of nice cities and towns, all within a short driving distance from each other, and plenty to do there as well. (No amusement park, unfortunately)

I don't want this to turn political but currently there is a 400 million dollar surplus in the budget so that sounds to me like an improvement over what we had.
Back to the previous discussion- Moving out of one Ghetto to another.

^ It's random BS... let's turn this political. When we have teachers moving to Texas because we pay so terribly here, maybe we should dip into that $400 million surplus. Who cares about a surplus when the overall state of the state is in the shytter.

15. Political and Religious Discussions: This forum does have an off-topic section ("All Things Not Carowinds"), but this does not extend to discussions surrounding political or religious issues. While we believe political discussion to be important and valuable, the conflict it often causes amongst anonymous Internet users is something we wish to avoid on this site. This rule includes usernames, avatars, signatures, and profiles; these fields cannot be used to make political or religious statements.

If you know me you know I love talking politics, but this is not the place for it. You've got a bunch of people on here who can't even talk about amusement parks without being uncivil to each other, so I certainly don't want to have to deal with them trying to talk about adult subjects. Also ignorance is bliss and I really don't want to know everyone's political views because it would probably make me want to shut the site down.

I'll stay away from politics but toe the line just to justify my initial comment. My wife is a teacher. Enough said.
