Starting salary for NC teachers is around 30,000 dollars. I don't remember the exact number nor can I find it but starting in Texas 27,000 dollars. Most of the teachers I know are far annoyed with Common Core Standards than their paycheck, it is not uncommon for teachers to want to get out of the profession for that reason.

I'll stay away from politics but toe the line just to justify my initial comment. My wife is a teacher. Enough said.

:lolno: Your exit strategy makes sense now.

Where do you get your facts? NC teachers are among the lowest paid in the country.

The Houston Independent School District plans to hold a job fair Saturday at the Doubletree Brownstone Hotel on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. A newspaper classified ad promoting the event notes the district pays a $46,805 starting salary, which is about 33 percent higher than the starting salary for a Wake County teacher.

Since this really isn't a political discussion, I will continue.

My wife has been 'teaching' over 25 years although she hasn't worked full time in a classroom in years. She is now a curriculum coordinator. While she is upset about her pay, she is more upset the way money has decreased for education. That is causing issues with them getting and retaining quality teachers, which in turn impacts what she cares the most about - the students. She knew when she choose this profession that it would never primarily be about the pay.

We try to stay away from topic of Common Core although if you mention it to her, you will see her tense up and smoke start to come out of her ears.

^ As someone who comes from Greensboro, I am strongly considering bypassing uptown and taking the new leg of the loop when I come to Carowinds. It seems like it might only be about a mile extra and we don't have to deal with the potential bottleneck at 85 and 77. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Google Maps says it's about 4 minutes and 6 miles longer, which could be good if downtown is a cluster-eff.

You might also consider taking I-40 to I-77 then taking that all the way to Carowinds. I-85 between Salisbury and Kannapolis where it's 2 lanes is always a bottleneck, so 40 to 77 is a nice alternative. From my house it's 90ish minutes either way (assuming no traffic).

Apple Maps says Carowinds to Lexington is 1hr, 13 minutes via 77/85 and 1hr, 27 minutes via 77/485/85. It also says it adds 15 miles. This info seems fairly in line with my driving times. I have taken 485 a few times because I couldn't get over getting onto 77, I wasn't ready to home or I had make a stop by my monster...err...mother in law's house in Piper Glen.

^Umm oops! I misunderstood, however in my defense the topic does say off-topic. :sarcasm:

I see the option now on Maps, which brings up a tangent. Thoughts on the 77 Toll Lanes/Interstate?
