While I was taking this pic a guy from maintainance stopped to talk. Skytower needs a few more test runs before it opens. They're going to test it today and hope to reopen tomorrow.

One reason Skytower was closed for so long is the new part failed QC and had to be remade. Insert CF/Intamin angst here.

I don't think the Skytower takes up that much space. Although Cedar Point tore down theirs to make room for Gatekeeper.

^^Their tower had declining ridership as well as high maintenance costs.

More importantly it was in the way of future expansion with the huge ride they put there. There really wasn't room to keep it there and build Gatekeeper. They needed space for the plaza.

It was also a hell of a lot easier to take that one down than the one at Carowinds would be. Some carefully placed charges detonated at the base and it just tipped over into the parking lot. Skytower would probably have to come down piece by piece.
