General Carowinds discussion

Well I was Just at Darian Lake up in western NY and I went in a realativly new wave pool. I was surpriced to see how great the waves were. Now I know that the pool at carowinds was changed last year when CF took over, but it wasn't all that great to begin with, even the Wave Pool at KD had Bigger Waves and KD's isn't that much younger than Carowinds. Maby this one will have decent waves as well??? :D

I'm not saying this Is a good Investment at all because I think it sucks that we are getting riped off again, But if A WATER PARK is what the GP wants than that's what they get, Whatever makes CF money, right?

then they could send Top Gun to Kings Island which would pretty much complete their coaster diversity.

I would love that! Our Top Gun plainly sucks and can go die.

I'm curious to see if anyone uses thos "upcharge" things

Nobody does at KI, and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same story at Carowinds.

Look at Opryland and look at how much Nashville was growing and is continuing to grow.

Again, apples to oranges. Opryland is in a tourist area, one that the destroyers of that park have supposedly been noted that they failed in taking the park out.

Carowinds is in a growing metro area. And it isn't like Carowinds is in a spot that is prime real estate for...well...anything but entertainment.

It's not the same. Carowinds isn't closing down. Period.

I wanna clarify my dissaprovement. I'm not upset that it's a new wave pool but what makes me get going is that that is all it is! Ok so now more people can swim but what about the folks who actually like waterslides. I wouldn't step foot in any pool at a themepark simply because you cant actually swim you just have to sit there but I WANT THE PARK TO GET SOME NEW SLIDES!!! They dont have to be brand new but new to PARAMOUNT"S CAROWINDS!!!

^ Just wait till next year.

Dick will say that the water park at Geagua Lake is a failure and will ship off all the slides to Carowinds and KD.

Heck i don't even think apartments could survive on that land. It's cursed thanks to Six Flags.

Again just another reason I will not be buying the family season passes next year.. My wife does enjoy the water park more than the rides. But even she thinks another wave pool were a ton of people simply jump up and down in the same spot and little kids crap in the pool is too much. She would have rather seen an even bigger lazy river themed to the outback rather than a wave pool. Yes I do think Carowinds will gt a really good "something" for 2009 but I will sit this year out and wait and see..

So much doom and gloom in this thread folks. Maybe they heard that another park in the region might be planning a huge expansion in 09. Would be a great year to add something to get you passholders back.

Whoever mentioned Wild Adventure in this thread, I hope you where not calling it a local park. Bit down the road a good piece, but should really grow in the coming years. Fogive me if you where not for I do not feel like going back and reading the Doom and Gloom of 2008.

I agree, Jarvis, that I'd love to see more slides. A tornado is a given.

But as for everyone else, Carowinds has ONE off year and they say its doomed. The parks coaster count, what, doubled since 1998? That's 10 years. Even if they lose Saturater.

The only thing they 'need', to me, are more slides and thrill flats.

Now, I would be about 40% satisfied if we could get the new "Proslide Tornato Tantrum"!

What will it take to get you up to 45% then?

Got to thinking about the new wave pool............
The wave pool we currently have has been there for what, 15 years? Good while I know. White Lightnin' was taken out in '88, but anyway.......technology has changed a lot since that time. Is it possible that they build a new wave pool this year, but then take out the old one? Now what do you do now? Could be a place to put Saturator(back part of pool), as well as a new coaster in the area of the old Saturator location/wave pool area. Even if Saturator isn't brought back out, maybe then a nice coaster, redefining the Boomarang Bay area a little. Oh yeah, and take the minature golf course out with it, I don't think I ever saw anyone playing!

Just thinking what could be..............for 2009. 2008 just looks to be a year of recruiting new season pass holders. But building their customer base is a way of generating the revenue it takes to build up the coaster line here.

Although technolgy has changed it doesnt mean it has changed for everything. Just like roller coasters, their basic function has not changed over the years but some different variations have. I dont think much has changed in the technology of wave pools. I mean its just a wave pool. and even if technology has changed it would be in the equipment housing unit so a complete demolition of the pool section would be unnessary so that is just a pool w/ or w/ the waves and the technology aspect is only like 20% of the complete package when it comes to a wave pool. Good try at that concept though man!

You are probably right Bruh. I just don't see the need for 2 wave pools. The new one is gonna be 36% bigger, which IS needed. The added geisers is a cool new effect. I just don't think 136% is needed. Looking at the map, there is space in the area of the Saturator, where the paths open up to space. Using some area behind cyclone and outside of the water park, you have ample room for a nice coaster. IMO this is the site of the newest addition to our coaster family. (Not that my opinion is ever true!) LOL

Dreams are nice to have anyway.
