I think I got to ride the monroail. I remember I was real small and that it used to go out to those shops out by 77. It had air conditioning didn't it? This is the only thing that I remember of the monorail.

^^Actually, Kings Dominion had a monorail thru their wild animal habitats. It was removed sometime during the late 80s reign of KECO.

Both Kings Island and Kings Dominion had Von-Roll Skyrides as well, and they were removed around the same time as the one at Carowinds.

I miss the skyway at WDW. It was nice and long. At least SFoG* and BGW still have them.

(*-Originally SFoG had two, but one was removed in the 80s)

Oh, the memories! The skyway was a lot of fun and a great way to relax for a few minutes. It's a shame that so many parks went on a rampage to take them down in the 80's like they did. The monorail, for those who didn't know, went to Acupulco, Mexico but I have yet to hear any confirmation from anyone that it is actually running.

"Max is right, it really shows how old I (and a lot of other members on these boards ;) )am getting. The characters I grew up seeing at the park were Capt. Caveman, Jabberwocky, etc."

I thought I knew many of the hundreds of HB characters, but who is Jabberwocky? Did you mean Jabberjaw? I know there are many variations on characters, so there could be a Jabberwocky as well.

 Look at all the various Shaggy-type characters we had for a while.

Captain Caveman Rocks! :P

If I remember correctly, Jabberwocky was a shark. Or was that JabberJaw?

No on the A/C. You had to rely on the breeze to blow through the open slots where the windows would have been.

You can still see some of the Monorail's footers around the park, and out along the driveway into the parking lot. There's also some left under the Goldrusher. I think the Plantation picnic shelter is actually the old Monorail storage building out by the North Gate. (Not sure about that, though)

And several of the cable car footers were still visible up until this year.

Were the supports for the monorail I-Beams? If so I know where 20 or so monorail footers are.

There is one over by the Goldrusher. Monorail footers?

You can see the old Monorail storage building in this photo. Look to the left behind the flume. Yes, that is where the Plantation picnic shelter is.

After reading posts in other forums related to Paramount Parks, it seems that the Paramount chain in general has had a lot of firsts.

Just look at Son of Beast (first modern looping wooden coaster), Hypersonic (first installation of this kind at any park), Volcano Blast Coaster (first Intamin suspended launch), Outer Limits (first fully enclosed launcher), Stealth (first modern Flying coaster with inversions). Any more?
