I will assume that the ride pad (where guests walk on) will be slip resistant in case of rain. I suggested that some of those grip-sandpaper esk pads be put on the large metal sections of scrambler (the part that some guest walk on sometimes). I usually have to stand on them all the time and, after a good rainstorm, it wasn't very safe. It's designed to be walked on or stepped on, but it's very slippery when wet. Hopefully the Top Scan will also have a slip resistant base.

No. They are just painted Red. So I told Steve about it; and how easy it is to slip and fall if it's even the slightest bit wet. So I suggested that the same sand-grit paper that's on the car steps be put on the three metal sections. It's something that is cheap and can be easily replaced when it's worn down. Even he agreed that that is a good thing to do.

Aren't the ride pads concete for the top scan, wave swinger and troika? The musik express I understand as the walkway is made of the medal bleacher type walkway which looked to have that sandpaper grip on it already.

Looks like Diamond Plate here, unless you are standing on the center part. Diamond Plate meets slip resistance standards. Electro-Spin will likely have a Diamond Plate platform as the ride sits in a concrete pit. The slip pads that Amos suggest are present on other carnival rides that have inclined platforms and ramps Sometimes but not on flat surfaces very often.

I didn't have time earlier to look up a picture of Scrambler.


Rock N Roller has a wooden platform with no slip/grip pads as of this picture.

Ok I thought Carowinds top scan would have the slanted concrete slab like shockwave at CW. Is this not the case?

Looks like CW's Shockwave is set up similar to Electrospin. So you are probably right, I ain't never seen a transportable ride incased in concrete before. I wonder how hard it will be to removed these rides in the future without damaging them or if that would be possible.
Lagoon's model was easier to find pictures of the platform and Mondial doesn't appear to have ever made a park model Top Scan. But from what I can tell Lagoon's isn't built into a pit like Shockwave or Electrospin.

This is what I'm talking about. Where the red paint is. Paint that is NOT slip resistant.
We often have to stand on those areas to lock the gondolas. If they are wet, they are very slippery. Don't question my concern when I know for a fact that I've nearly fallen several times due to it being wet.

As much as it pains me to say this, I think you're misunderstanding Bee. The red painted floor does indeed have the raised pattern like diamond plate. And it is indeed sufficient for slip resistance due to OSHA standards in most areas regardless of what you've personally experienced (which noones was disputing).

I'll have to put that to the test (again). If it's still slippery, then OSHA will need to do some reevaluations.

Another option is to add 'grit' to the paint. There are additives you can buy and add to paint that creates a gritty, non-slippery surface. That is more aesthetically pleasing although I don't know if it is OSHA standards. I did it on a porch I painted some years ago and it worked really well.

I would love to know the history of this ride, Carowinds really went all out instead of reusing canvas.

What history? It just seems more feasible, from a maintenance stand point, to not use a canvas roof.
