Knowing how smart Cedar Fair is, I'm sure whatever its replacing Rolling Thunders will put it to shame. Just the fact that this park added Fury proves that this place has the potential of becoming one of the best amusment parks in the world.

Rolling Thunders [sic] was removed from Six Flags Great Adventure in 2013. It was never at Carowinds.

Whoops. Meant to say Thunder Road. Sorry about that.

:? All I am saying is that Thunder Road isnt quite the historical coaster like those older woodies out there. Kennywood is also a much older amusment park, that puts a lot more effort into perserveing their old school attractions, and not just their woodies.
RollerBee wrote:Well if they are going to tear her down anyway, why not? Just keep the fire depts ready next to the coaster in case it catchs fire.

I dont think any park has ever attempted this. I imagine the risk of fire would be too great.

Kennywood does put a lot of care and attention into it's historical structures, I agree. In Carowinds case, the argument has become one of preservation vs. attrition. Many argue from the perspective that TR is not as "historical" so, no major loss. One of the aspects that leads to a structure being recognized as historical is its longevity. Longevity is only achieved through care, attention and investment, not by tearing it down. I have to respectfully disagree with the idea that TR is not a "historical" coaster. The intrinsic historical value of something is made up of far more than simply its age. Fury 325 is certainly a historical marker in the course of Carowind's history, is it not? It hasn't even been open a year.

That was an awesome article on Thunder Road. I still think, however, that with some planning and effort, Thunder Road could have still have been a part of, integrated in, or reworked into this expansion. And stop calling me Shirley.(someone had to say it)
