General Carowinds discussion

So after looking at the webcams today, I feel a little better and I am confident that whatever Cedar Fair is building has to be spectacular to justify even half the reason they would take out Thunder Road. I still think that it's a terrible, terrible decision, but with the new crowds they are bringing in, at least they are trying. I hope the next coaster we get isn't big and record breaking like Fury325 or Intimidator, but rather medium-sized and thrilling to fill the gap that will be left by Thunder Road. I think a Mack spinner or White Lightning-sized GCI would be a great fit.

So...on the change.org petition...it says TR is an original ride. It wasn't. It opened 3 years after the park opened.

I'm not saying this to be contrary...I truly want to know...what do you think the results of creating an online petition will be? I'm pretty sure Carowinds has already sunk money into whatever their plans moving forward are, and I can't imagine anything that would magically change their minds. I love that you love the ride, but I just feel like it might be wasted energy.

I can't believe some of this stuff that I'm reading.!? The management team at cedar fair know what they're doing! They're shooting for more of a national crowd and not just locals. Who comes from several states away just to rideTR? I'm thinking no one....Take away fury 325, intimidator, and afterburn and no one from other states would even visit our park! 2016 will bring much joy to a majority of people and 90% of the people will forget all about TR next year. Be happy that cedar fair saw carowinds as having potential and bought it otherwise we would still be 20 years behind the major parks!! Thank you TR for the many thrills and thank you cedar fair for taking us into the future!!

The park almost certainly would not change its mind. I think it's important to be vocal about your disappointment not necessarily for Thunder Road's sake but to make them think twice about similar decisions in the future (although there won't be too much left of sentimental value after this).

That said, it's not completely unprecedented. In 2002 Six Flags Great America announced Whizzer would be removed. After massive public outcry they changed their plans and instead closed Shockwave to make room for Superman.

^^ A good amusement park consists of more than just destination coasters, it also has to have a well-rounded selection of rides to support its headliners. No one goes to Cedar Point just to ride Blue Streak, but having it there gives the park a classic woodie to compliment their bigger, more modern rides. You make it sound like Fury325, Intimidator, and Afterburn are the only attractions at the park.

I know it is a stretch but I am hoping this is what happens with Thunder Road. I don't think any other coaster except the B&Ms would have this level of outcry we are seeing for Thunder Road.

Pure speculation: I wonder if the difference here is that there are serious issues with Thunder Road that were not solved even after all of the money spent on the GCI work. Something doesn't smell right about the whole thing. Hopefully we will get more answers later at the ACE event or elsewhere.

My only consolation in this is that the argument against building a new woodie just got a lot weaker.

Rollernut, chris and famous amos...how does it feel to be soooo sure of something that you were unsure of lol. Where there is smoke...its fire, and its probably on a wooden coaster...

Every time I've ever seen you make an allusion to the future like this, it comes true....so what I'm getting from this comment is a little throwback to the beginning of Colussus' RMC transformation....?
