General Carowinds discussion

I did the live periscope feed this morning o, the thunder road tour. Found the following out:

  • trains will be reused (park unknown)
  • deconstruction will begin immediately
  • signage etc. Will be donated to the coaster museum
  • parts of the ride will be re used not sure for what

If anyone else watched feel free to add anything, it wasnt a long tour....sure we will find out more Sunday.

So I guess this means that Racer and Rebel Yell will remain for now. Which makes me wonder why Thunder Road was singled out for demolition. Especially since it seemed to receive the most notoriety of the 3. I know they want to expand the water park and make room for future attractions, but seems like there could have been a workaround solution. Unless there was some sort of structural or maintenance issue they have not yet mentioned.

Where is this place?

It's not an actual museum yet, just a storage facility and at this point it's difficult to see whether it ever will be. This effort has been ongoing for at least 15 years. A pretty large collection has been assembled, though. At the ACE Con at Dollywood a couple years ago they had the first real exhibit. There are some photos here: http://www.rollercoastermuseum.org/exhibits

I think it's a great project and I hope it comes to be realized. According to the ACE budget, the museum does not get any cut of membership dues, meaning it is completely reliant on private donations.

My daughter and I took our last rides today on Thunder Road, three on the outlaw side and three on the sheriff side . Thunder Road was my first big coaster, so it was the first coaster I introduced her to in 2008. My first ride was in 1976. Her last ride was 2015. We will miss Thunder Road...

There are tons of weird museums all over the place. I know of several carousel museums, including one in Sandusky. It could definitely survive, it's just the startup cost that's difficult. I do think location is key. Ohio and Pennsylvania should be the top states to look for a location in IMO.
