I know I went there in '09 and there was definitely construction, on the first turn that is basically in the parking lot.

I REMEMBER SEEING CONSTRUCTION AS THE FENCE WENT UP AND THE FLUME TORN DOWN IN EARLY AUGUST OF 2009 AND THE LAND FLATTEN AND FOOTING DONE DURING SCAROWINDS 09.

Holy hell are my posts invisible?

This website was updated at least weekly with construction updates. We don't need posts with no punctuation, and all caps saying nonsensical things that may have been happening. We know what happened, we have an extensive record, from April of 2009 to October of 2009. (And even all throughout the winter thanks to Wormy)

April, May and June were all just flattening down the hill that the Log Flume used to be on. July and early August started the footer pouring, and track arrived shortly after that. By the time Scarowinds rolled around the ride was already completely announced and most of the lift hill and first drop were compeleted.

JamminJ wrote:The Log Flume was removed before the 2009 season. "Construction" is such an odd term to use since from about March to June was all land prep. A construction diary was kept here.

Maybe in the future I will have to start forgetting to use periods and use an obnoxious GIANT FONT

Now that I'm struggling to stay on topic..

Interesting - if that's the case it almost makes you wonder why Carowinds (Cedar Fair) even built intimidator. What's the point, if it's just a regional park with no close competition and no other touristy stuff?

Carowinds is an amusement park, and most amusement parks need growth to survive. It had been 6 years since Carowinds' last major coaster (Carolina Cobra isn't major). They needed a high capacity, highly marketable attraction, and they got it in spades with Intimidator. Now adding the SAME EXACT RIDE as Intimidator, except a little bit taller isn't a smart business decision. If you are catering to locals, you want a completely different experience. And you definitely don't want to spend Intimidator type money again.

Honestly I am really hoping for some type of launch. I would like to see something that starts off like xcelerator (knots berry farm) and finishes like Farenheight (hershey park) . I would like to see a 230 -275ft first launch hill, and many inversions. I know bigger is better, but the bigger it is, the reliability starts to drop. Thats what i am hoping for, will have to wait and see.

You know - it's funny - It "SEEMS" like Cedar Point gets a new coaster every year or even every other year, and looking at the timeline, that's not the case. I just noticed there was a stretch of six years between coasters Maveric (2007) and now Gatekeeper (2013) that's SIX years........Unless I missed something........I guess we just hear new things opening throughout the country at various parks each year and it feels like most parks gets a new coaster every year..

I'm a fan of floorless like Dominator, Scream, and Bizarro (SFG Adv)........Would be nice to have.......Then again, a LAUNCH coaster would be really cool too.

I see the point with the Giga......vs Hyper........Pretty much up and down but a little higher and faster, I still wish think it's cool that B&M finally made a Giga, and it looks so much better than the Intamin Gigas.....I was amazed CW got a B&M hyper and a B&M giga, pretty much the exact same thing, only a little higher and faster...

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've been on the site, and I've been reading this thread for a while now. Anyways, I personally would love to see a launch in 2014! Yet I find it unlikely, one thing I've noticed with most cedar fair rides is that that they often come in pairs, or the same name. (Windseeker, intimidator, the S&S Screamin' Swings back in 2006, the three hypers built three years in a row, dino alive, soak city, and now the rumor of more wing coasters.) Screamscape mentioned that we are on the short list of getting a wing coaster in our future. Although screamscape isn't the most reliable source all the time, I believe it. If cedar fair hasn't added a launch coaster in almost a decade I believe, what makes you think Carowinds, of all parks will be the first to get one? However I'd love for them to prove me wrong! Considering carowinds will be pretty much due for a coaster in 2014, if not definitely 2015, I highly suspect wing coaster. And they could always pull an Intimidator move on us and build in the parking lot. It appears lately that Cedar Fair is in love with B&M at the moment, which is where I think the future of most cedar fair parks is going.

It usually helps if you read all the posts before you reply. That way you can see if a comment you are about to make, has already been made.

If you wish to continue post here, I probably should be a factor in your life, since I am a moderator, and make (and enforce) the rules. One of the rules is in the Code of Conduct -

5. Grammar and Spelling: You are expected to make a concerted effort to use correct spelling and grammar on this website. This include proper capitalization and punctuation. Many browsers have built-in functionality that will check this for you. Firefox is the recommended browser of this site, and has such functionality. Internet chat shorthand (“r u going 2 the park today?”) is not permitted here, nor is slang.

If you can't make an effort to spell and use proper punctuation from your phone, maybe you shouldn't post from your phone.

But also in that Code of Conduct are rules against Trolling. Maybe I should ban myself. :|

Back on this now ridiculous topic -

I really hope no one ACTUALLY expects a coaster next year. I foresee some very disappointed message board posts in our future.

You're probably right. Next year, I expect to see a flat in the field in front of Intimidator or a water park expansion. (Which is heavily needed!)

So here's my crude drawings on screenshots from Google Earth:

NOTE: RIGHT CLICK ON THE IMAGES AND CLICK "OPEN IN NEW WINDOW" FOR THEM TO BE FULL SIZE, OTHERWISE YOU CAN'T SEE WHAT I DID!!!!!!!

They could tear down the cyclone ( :( ) and put in a wing coaster there:
Image
(red is track, yellow is lift hill)
-----------------------OR------------------------
They could build a TTD and a flat as shown in this drawing:

I measured the distance that they would have available for the TTD, and then measured the actual TTD at CP and we would have about 400 ft to spare, but we'd lose the Dino movie (Not that anybody would miss that, ) and another building that I kind of tried to paint over.

Anddddd this is now Wishlist Thread 2.0.

And just so I'm not "trolling" why on Earth do people want ANOTHER Top Thrill Dragster? It's not like the first one worked out too well.

Reasons against it -
1) Absurdly expensive to even build
2) Even more expensive to maintain
3) Incredibly unreliable
4) Not a fun ride!

Reasons for it -
1) ?

I would hope Cedar Fair have learned their lesson and never builds one of these monstrosities again. If Carowinds wishes to install a launch coaster there are a ton of "interesting" layouts they could pick from with companies like Mack, Premier, Zierer, and Gerstlauer all making some great rides over the last few years.

You know I just watched the POV of El Torro!!!!!!

My My My that's what Carowinds needs because let me tell you that ride looked awesome; either that or the Voyage. I don't know which is better, but El Torro didn't look like it took up as much room as the Voyage.

I also agree, again, that 2014 is not going to be the year for our next major coaster. I feel very good about 2015. I will pass on a KK or a TTD style for the reasons mentioned recently. Not a good idea at all. A slightly different but similar version of blue fire Megacoaster would be amazing. Would love to see more of Mack in the USA. Not a huge Intamin fan myself. Getting back to the actual topic of this thread. Being realistic. Planet Snoopy needs a new ride or three. Some love there would be great. If not that then a high quality, high end flat ride would work as we need that, as well as the Planet Snoopy addition. Then a launcher, Winger or a GCI woody for 2015.

After riding Gatekeeper, I really hope they don't build a wing rider at Carowinds. Oddly enough, I really enjoyed the much smaller Swarm at Thorpe Park, but Gatekeeper might be the most disappointing coaster Cedar Point has ever built. It's extremely uneventful.
