General Carowinds discussion

I wouldn't hold my breath for it, but here is proof from RMC that there is no exclusive contract with Six Flags (for those who still think there is). I'm sure they already have contracts for several coasters to be done over a period of time and since they are still a relatively small company they can only do so many a year.

No matter what happens I don't believe we will be down a coaster for long. In the "coaster mecca" thread below a poster shows that we are 6th in the world when it comes to coaster count and I remember several years ago that being a big deal! I don't want to lose TR but there are a couple of rides that have come and gone that I miss (Days of Thunder, White Lightning, the old times cars, the race cars that you can still see the track of on Vortex and the monorail) but it has most of the time it has led to something better that becomes a new favorite. (except for Days of Thunder...I still miss the full size NASCAR replicas and the motion seats)

Rollernut, chris and famous amos...how does it feel to be soooo sure of something that you were unsure of lol. Where there is smoke...its fire, and its probably on a wooden coaster...

Every time I've ever seen you make an allusion to the future like this, it comes true....so what I'm getting from this comment is a little throwback to the beginning of Colussus' RMC transformation....?

If I were a betting man, and I'm not, I would wager another cedar fair park get rmc'd before anything at carowinds...even if that happens. I wonder if they are gonna announce the other closures? :shh:     :silent:

Seriously. I too was hurt when i [s]found out[/s] had a nightmare about this, fortunetly I've had time to soak it all in. Now we play the waiting game to see of the new family addition will have us logging off flumming...I mean fuming with disdain. I would love to know the real, non pr reason for all of this...

I completely understand the sentiment of those who grew up riding Thunder Road. My first wooden coaster was Big Dipper, which is rotting away SBNO, at Geauga Lake, and I'm saddened every time I think about that fun coaster. I'm sure it's the same for many of you and TR.

What saddens me the most is yet one more classic wooden coaster will be gone. Ironically I was working on a coaster census report and had some numbers in front of me. Here are the number of US coasters from the past four years and the gap continues to increase between wood and steel, as expected. At this rate it won't be long , though, until the graph of wooden coasters actually starts to decline.

Read ALL of the thread before posting.

^ That's a different link for a different petition. At this moment, that particular petition has only 4 supporters out of their goal of 100. The one I linked has 363+ people out of our goal of 1000 and it's growing rapidly. Not liking it's going to really change Carowind's decision, but it's worth a try.

Hmm...TR is 39 this year. Kinda odd to scrap it now, right? Maybe something interesting for its 40th birthday? Anybody know the reason they stopped rebuilding the ride couple years ago or so? Maybe they put on the brakes after looking/deciding at a possible redesign, such as RMC; the timing seems to fit. I hate to lose yet another long-time icon of the park, so let's see what they have in mind.

I just saw this announcement on the Observer's page. I am disappointed. I love wooden coasters although as a tall person, i found this one to be the most difficult to get into. I actually expected Hurler to go before TR.

I hope it's worth it. Personally, I don't think Carowinds is big enough to justify the removal of any ride but what do I know...

Ok, so if it will have it's last race(they didn't say it was being torn down), is there a possibility of keeping one side of the ride, and converting the other side to RMC or a flume for the 'big splash'? I don't know if they would do it, but they could also create the worlds longest wooden coaster by no longer having it as a racing coaster, and making it so you do both sides of the coaster with one ride (like twisted colossus, but not converted to RMC). This would make it the world's longest wooden coaster?
