Was removed at some point in the 80s I believe.
Von-Roll Chairlifts were very popular with parks in the late 60s and early 70s. It was hard to find a park that did not have one. But then, a car fell off the cable on the one at Six Flags Over Mid-America(Now St. Louis) and insurance costs for the rides sky rocketed, causing most parks that had one to demolish it for safety and money concerns.
I'm not quiet sure what happend to the one at Carowinds though. Because the Chairlifts were normally designed for a specific location, there not that easy to re-erect somewhere else or at a different park.
The Frontier Outpost Skyway Station is still there. I believe it currently houses the Outer Hanks resturant in the lower level. You can see it HERE The Chairlift Cars glided in and out of the large opening on the left side of the building, where the boat and fish netting are.
I wish Carowinds still had the Skyway. BGW and SFOG both still have theirs.
