I love hitting Carowinds early on Friday mornings. Even though it's clearly posted on the web site, apparently nobody knows it opens at 9AM (and they'll let you in before that, too).

So I leave home at 8:35, drive over. Standing behind about 20 people for Borg by 8:50. Gates open 9AM, I hop on front row of second Borg train. Only my second time on Borg, since the lines are usually insanely long. Next is Top Gun, again front row. Zero wait, walk on and ride. Then I went over to Thunder Road, which only runs forward on Friday for now, and again, front row, zero wait. Next I head over to Cyclone and...front row, zero wait. Straight off the Cyclone exit, I head for Hurler. Front row, zero wait. I was planning on hitting Vortex last, but there was problably a 20 minute or so wait, so I hopped in the car at 10:02 and headed to work. Sat down at 10:20 and started typing this.

I'd really like to find a way to work Frenzoid and Vortex into my Friday morning solo mini-trips, and maybe even Goldrusher. I tried to plan it such that the rides that tend to get long lines first (Borg) are the first ones I ride, and save the ones that are less popular for last. I screwed up this time by putting Vortex last. I also don't want to backtrack too much, so I try to go in a loop, coming in through the North gate and going clockwise around from Borg. Maybe I'll skip Borg next time and take Vortex first.

I noticed at Hurler once again the ghettoness that I've read about on here, so I won't bother repeating that. But, does Carowinds approve the music they typically play at Hurler? I'd be really surprised if they did. It doesn't seem to fit in with any of the music playing at any of the other rides.

Anyhow, I love my Friday solo mini-trips!

Weird. Why can they open at 9:00 on a Friday, but not Saturday?

Because they do that on those Fridays for education days.

I've tended to avoid these Fridays since some of the times I've been they've been insanely packed. You think "cool, I have Friday off, Carowinds is open, and they're open early" only to see a continual stream of buses flowing into the parking lot. Packed is one thing. Packed with 15-year-olds is a whole different story. Guess the school groups aren't getting there as early as they used to.

Yup, I've been the past two Fridays (last Friday with my girlfriend since she wasn't working), and I did the same thing last year. By 10AM, it is an absolute ZOO, both inside at the rides and outside at the gates and parking lots. Get in before 9AM, hit the rides you want to hit as quickly as possible, and be gone by 10 or 10:30.

I haven't found any other easily predictable times where it is absolutely dead in the park other than 9 - 10AM Friday mornings.
