So, Like, once we got to Coney Island, torrential rain came thru. And we'd just missed the Mermaid Parade (Sodom by the Sea!). But we were there for 2 real reasons, The Infamous Coney Island Cyclone, and Deno's Wonder Wheel.

So very typically New York.

Image

Yeah, Hi. Rain. BOO!

Image

Coney Island Cyclone. I'd been waiting to ride this for YEARS. I'd heard great and terrible things about it. Then saw all that padding. Matt said I should ride in the backseat, so I did. It was raining, so we expected a killer ride. Well, we got one, but not in a good way.

Image

OhmahJeebusthisthinghurts!!!

Image

How could Six Flags get this right, but everyone else in the U.S. get this so wrong, including the original? It was very slow, and very painful. I hated it more than Georgia Cyclone. I hated it more than Psyclone. I'd love to get it on a good day, but today was NOT the day.

Image

So next up was the Wonder Wheel. OMG, I Screamed like a little girl. it's all gears, no tires. It's old, and it's scary. Like, XScream Scary. Totally worth the $6, even if I was scared crapless.

Image

So we walked up Surf Ave. while the freaks were congregating. I kept having to watch where I was shooting pictures because of the nudity.

Image

I don't like Hot Dogs, but when in Rome...You look at the price, look to find out that they're the same size as regular hot dogs, and you let Bubba buy his, whilst skipping an offer for him to buy you one. They were too dang expensive, and I don't like them anywho. The restroom was surprisingly clean, though.

Image

Love the huge boardwalk.

Image

So I walked out in the sand and put my (still in shoes) toes in the water.

Image

One of my favorite things to see on any beach, rides!

Image

Remember I'd said there were freaks and nudity?

And that doesn't even begin to cover it. Had we known it was the Parade that day, we'd have gotten there earlier. As it stands, we didn't spend a lot of time there. I'd like to have gone to the Circus that was there, though, as Ringling is hosting an all summer Coney Island show.

Image

One last look at the Scary Wheel.

Image

One last look at Sucklone.

Image

The rain had stopped, and the freaks were back out playing.

Image

And now we hop on the Metro for that 45 minute ride back. Were we even here 45 minutes?

Image

And I leave you with 3 pictures of Coney Island Monuments, Lomotized.

So it seems Coney Island Cyclone should not be ridden in the back seat I guess. JamminJ also rode it once there and absolutely hated it. I am probably going up there sometime in the coming months. Not even really looking forward to riding it now.

That 2nd photo looked very similar to one of my visits to Coney. Rain, thunder & lightning. No problem though. The Cyclone continued running although bolts of lightning were everywhere. Crazy!!

DO NOT RIDE THE BACKSEAT if you respect your spinal cord! I can say I did it once, but never again. Second or third from the back is great. Just stay off ANY wheel seat, IMO.

Also, for classic ride lovers, the USA's (and possibly the world) only surviving Saturn 6 (aka Hurricane) is still in operation at Coney. Pictures don't do it justice. Make sure you ride it! Here's an older photo of it.

Great photos! Thanks for sharing.

I'd like to go back some time next spring on a nice day and get a better ride on Cyclone. Heck, I'd like to spend more time at Coney. Loved the area, just got a bad ride and crappy weather.

As for the clean restroom, Nathan's was decent enough. I mean, it wasn't clean enough to eat off the floors, but it was clean, didn't stink and the toilets were flushed.

Didn't do Spook-a-Rama. Wanted to, but my group said it sucked, so we didn't. Didn't have a lot of time to do it anywho. This was strictly a get in, get out trip as my 3 days of NYC got cut down to one.

Great pics though.

Like $4. I have issue with paying that much for something, just to say "I've eaten here..." because it wasn't anything special. If it were something other than a bun with ketchup and mustard, I'd have considered it. But like I said, I don't like Hot Dogs.

Oh please, I would have easily paid that. Shoot, the Nathan's hot dog stand at Concord Mills is nearly that much, and I did that once. But if you don't like hot dogs, I can see you passing on it. :) I kinda thought they may be a little more than that up there. It's kinda like going to Philly, gotta get a cheesesteak while there or there is no sense going!!
