I know there is already a thread dedicated to the cyclone repaint, but nothing has been mentioned about Vortex. So as I was reading on wiki (we all know how reliable wiki is.....Sarcasm....) it says Vortex and Cyclone are getting repainted for 2010 season. Do you think they might change the color from red to something else because Intimidator is red? Below is a copy and paste of the quote. Just was curious of everyone else's thoughts on this, and trying to bring some life to the "all things carowinds".




Timeline
2010: Intimidator: A 232 foot tall, 5316 foot long Bolliger and Mabillard hyper coaster. It will feature a 74 degree, 211 foot first drop putting the train in excess of 75 MPH. A reported 23 million dollars will be invested in the ride. [2] Planet Snoopy will also be coming in Spring 2010 due to an expired contract with Viacom. All Nickelodeon references will be removed. "Carolina Cyclone" and "Vortex" will be repainted.

It would make since, Vortex was last painted in 2003/2004 when Nighthawk was built.

It would also make sense considering Intimidator will be red. I dont know how black would look. Maybe really good. Maybe ugly. Haha.

I could have gone to wiki and placed that there. I wont start "discussing" a paint job until the park officially says "we are painting said coaster", if the park even mentions it.

Bart never mentioned anything but Cyclone being painted. If he's going to reveal that, I doubt they are going to mess with other rides. They already are throwing a lot of money into Planet Snoopy.

Well think about it, timing is right. Economy sucks right now, and I am sure they could get quite the deal repainting both now.

The economy is NOT that bad where people are throwing things into the discount barrel. If anything prices are going UP! Look at what happen to dollywood...the price of their project went up (from what I read somewhere) so they held off until next year to build it...

it just doesnt make sense to paint vortex when they have more important things right now to worry about other than cosmetic surgery for vortex

I just figured they wouldn't want 2 red coasters across from each other. Even though the entrance to Vortex is not anywhere near the entrance to Intimidator. I was merely wondering "if" it does get painted what color does everyone think it will be.

On a side note, they have alot of changes in store for 2010, and ALOT of off season work ahead of them. Maybe with planet snoopy coming, new Intimidator, why not revamp some other things since you are doing so much for the 2010 season. They are pretty much giving the park a whole new facelift, why not go full circle.

As I have said time and time again, where in the rulebook does it say a park can't have 2 red coasters? They are NOWHERE near each other, not to mention they have a giant blue and yellow coaster between them. Vortex should not be repainted. Cyclone is looking terrible, and Ricochet has black grease all throughout its course, not to mention being very very faded. If they were to paint 2 coasters, these two are the most dire in need. Afterburn is sort of rusted, but is not that noticeable unless you are right next to it or riding in the front row, so that can wait. I would just bet on Cyclone myself though.

If they were to paint Vortex sometime down the road (far down the road) I think a KD Dominator orange/purple type scheme would look very nice. Or they could take it out and put something fun there.

Well Bart did confirm they were doing a multi-colored makeover of Cyclone, so that one seems pretty likely.

I'm impressed they are even doing that considering all the money they are going to have to put into Intimidator and Planet Snoopy.

I highly doubt they'd change the colors from the red that it already is, but after some thought I've figured up a nice color combination. Black track, black supports and green rails (like the Hulk green). The trains themselves would be black with maybe the Vortex logo being green.
Just my thoughts on the paint...

I agree that Ricochet and Cyclone (Cyclone being at the top of the list) should be painted as soon as possible. The reconstruction of the Hurler will probably have to wait until next year.

Just announced in the Carowinds newsletter, the Cyclone will be getting painted and by the way they phrased it, it appears as if it will be an all new color, not just a touch-up of the same colors.
