Seeing a lot of reports of this and having trouble duplicating it. It seems to come and go.

If you receive an error message when trying to read or post on the forums, please reply to this thread and provide:

  1. The exact time it happened
  2. What page you were on
  3. What you were trying to do
  4. What message you had written (if error happens when replying to a thread)
  5. Provide the exact error message

Thanks for your help. Trying to prevent the boards from melting down when announcement day arrives.

Either 9:29 or 9:30 am when replying to the project alpha thread.

The message as a screenshot (it would not let me post this message if i pasted it):

I think it has to do with the apostrophe/quotation marks. Even when I tried making this reply, it would not post if there was an apostrophe or quotation marks. Remove those, and it posts without error.

I just had the message pop up again so I took out the quotations and it was able to post

The site was down for a couple of days. We still seem to have a pretty active user base, but it's made me wonder if we should start migrating to /r/Carowinds subreddit. I don't know if it's moderated by anyone here, but in the event of another site crash, it'd be nice to have another backup forum.

I dont think a sub reddit would be good. What we have is great sometimes things happen. Just like youtube going completely down on 10-16-18 it comes back. I just wish we could have a website again. Thats just me

I take a bazillion pics, so I may spam r/Carowinds just like I do here, Instagram, etc. I like this site though because of the archived stuff and I’m sure it was many of our first go to for anything Carowinds.

i agree, it may be time for a new more reliable place to post. I commented on the "not carowinds" thread and was told people have real jobs, and that's why the site goes down from time to time. Utterly bizarre answer.

I never said the site goes down because people have jobs. I was implying that people can't stop real life to fix a server issue. I didn't realize that was not obvious. My apologies.

Are you really insisting that someone, who does this for free without charging his members, should spend more money out of pocket to please an impatient user?

My point is that for the $20 a month or whatever the site owner pays to have this as a hobby and provide a free forum for carowinds fans, he ought to be able to expect better reliability from his ISP than 48 hour outages every 10 days or so. Thats exactly what has happened now within the past 30 days.

Godaddy or whoever is a very cheap basic ISP that doesn't have issues like whatever is going on in this case. There are bazillions just like godaddy. No reason for it to be out.

"Spend more money out of pocket to please an impatient user?" Oh Please. Nah, just that it's not going to be a very serious site if it has outages, whether he does it for free or not. I appreciate the forum being here, dont get me wrong, but it's just becoming increasingly unreliable.

What, exactly, are you hoping for an end result? Again, people have real jobs. They don't have hours to research and price check a bunch of different servers. This site is getting a lot of traffic with the construction going on. Why should he have to do all this research and price checking, including switching servers (which, by the way, takes the website offline for a couple of days) for something that won't be needed after construction is complete? Because you are the only one who is complaining consistently.

Serious site? CC has been here over 15 years and guess what? It's gone down before and no one batted an eye. You must have not been here during Fury construction.

Someone is a very unhappy person. That negativity isn't needed here. Things happen. I'm sure everyone (well 99.9%) was able to keep track of what was going on with the park through it's various social media outlets and webcams. While it was unfortunate that the site was down for a few days, it's not a big deal and far from the end of the world. Not much happened anyway in that time. It was back up in time for today's construction tour and Mountain Gliders to be posted.

You haven’t the slightest clue what the issues are and I laughed out loud at the suggestion that buying a GoDaddy hosting account would fix it.

The reality is that the website is more than 15 years old. The current build of the forum software and database is nearly four years old. Corruptions and vulnerabilities are popping up at a greater rate and the only way to truly address that is to migrate the site to a new software build, a very time consuming effort that neither myself or any of the other volunteers have the time or interest in doing right now.

So you are right, the time may be approaching to start considering alternatives.
