General Carowinds discussion

It just seems like every other park is so ahead of Carowinds. The rides featured on the show were so high tech and cool. I love old classic rides, but I wish Carowinds would get something really new and unique, not just a roller coaster that another park was willing to get rid of. After Borg, I don't know if we'll get a new coaster next season.

Anyway, I hope everyone caught the show on the Travel Channel tonight.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched it because now I feel deprived. Hopefully I can travel around and ride all the cool rides on the Travel Channel shows someday.
Yes, I've made the decision. When my son gets older, My daughter and I are going to join ACE.

My crazy daughter wanted to ride this thing called the "skyscraper". I prefer my rides on a track please.

Well mom.............Its not that every park is ahead of carowinds its that carowinds isnt in the extremes thrill light of things. Carowinds doesnt really have any competition in the area so it doesnt have to add top thrill dragsters or X or son of beast. Carowinds has had its share of unique and new for instance, top gun (which is one of very few inverted coasters w/ 6 inversions and no mid-course brake run, 7th fastest inverted coaster in the USA, 6th longest inverted in the USA, and might I add one of only two inverted coasters in the world to feature an inverted batwing). Or perhaps FSS which combined the fun of a suspended swinging coaster and a water ride, and to this day its only 2 of its kind in the world. Lets look at scooby doo's haunted mansion, which paved the way for all the scooby doo's interactive rides. Just to name a few...............besides if every park offered the same amount of thrills chills and spills then wouldnt that be a little boring?

Well, a lot of these new "high-tech" rides are either unreliable, make you sick, or just aren't as fun as they look. This does not apply to all, but it does to most.

Let the other parks experiment and gamble for attendence. We have a ever increasing in quality park that is clean and fun with several nice coasters thrown in the mix. I'd take Carowinds over Magic Mountain any day.

Sure, there is always room for improvement or more, but that's true with every park. Depending on what they deliver and setting a pace is what makes expectations more realistic and great to come back to see what's next. Magic Mountain and Cedar Point are in a tough spot, they feel that they have to try and top theirself each year now and that's a tough expectation to be in, whereas Carowinds has it's bar set at a much more realistic and fun pace with neat new attractions each year that try to cover all different ages with fun and quality over thrill and breaking records.

Not saying a few unique ride additions would hurt Carowinds, I'm just glad it's not the norm to risk too much on experimental ride experiences like X or even making all other rides seem inferior in your park by making something like Millenium Force. Again, not that ME is bad, but another park is already filling those shoes, why try to top it or compete.

^Actually I agree with you CoasterMom, Carowinds does need somthing New and Unique. But maybe just maybe in 2005 we might get a Delerium!

Anyway, I saw the show, about a week ago actually, it was O.K, they need to get there facts straight before they make a show though...(I ended up seeing about 3-6 facts wrong throughout the show)

Dude, do you see that carowinds does have new and unique attractions. where else can you ride a coaster like thunder road? (Its only one other in the world.) So I guess every park has a set point swing thing............ Or perhaps you can go to any random park and experience an inverted batwing (with no trims might I add). I understand that you may feel that way but carowinds is doing ALOT better than some parks like for instance how would you like it if carowinds was doing the same as opryland? Better yet Astroworld or SFWOA? Carowinds is a solid park with solid attractions. All these other parks get are knock offs of what the pervious park got just to set records would you rather carowinds get a parking lot coaster just to keep up with the jone's?

So let me bottom line this:

Carowinds runs on a majority rules system where as the majority of their patrons like the park and the new and unique attractions. Its us coaster junkies :P that seem to always fold our arms and look to the side mummbling phrases like "cedar point got dragster, why cant carowinds get one too." or "carowinds needs a hyper just because I said so" The Elmira 'tudes gets you no where lol lol

Coastermom your complaints are as valid as my season pass. Although Paramount, does experiment in high tech thrills (ie: Hypersonic, Volcano, Outer Limits, Son of Beast, Dellerium, and more) they just don't at Carowinds. When the park's GM is ready for us to become a destination park, like Kings Island or Kings Dominion, then we may add some dazzling high tech thrills. Until then, we will be stuck with the Scooby Haunted Mansions (which was actually the 3rd of this type ride in a US park), and the Super Saturator's. Sometimes it is disheartening to watch these Travel Channel shows, because we see all these great thrill rides that we'd like to ride without traveling 500 miles or more to do it. Carowinds is a great park for what it is, but it has much room to improve in the extreme thrill department.

let me make this point clear............

Lets look at scooby doo's haunted mansion, which paved the way for all the scooby doo's interactive rides In the USA.

Well it was the first park in the US to get one so thats a possible yes...........
And if you wanna go into it more they paved the way the gyro drop towers in the US , they paved the way for stand up coasters in the US, they paved the way for wooden hyper looping coasters in the US and they also paved the way for this post...........

Yes, Carowinds was the first park to get a gyro drop. Don't think Carowinds or Paramount paved the way for stand-ups though. World's of Fun's Extreme Roller was the first looping stand-up in 1983 and in 1984 King Cobra at KI was born. And just how many wooden looping coasters have been built since SoB? NADA! The road they paved for that was a rather "bumpy" dead end.

I think Borg was a huge step in an "interesting" direction for Carowinds and Paramount in particular. The park is thriving, it will continue to grow and experiment more. We just need to give them time. ;)

As someone said earlier, there are many other parks out there far worse and far less recognizable. Carowinds IS moving up the rank to earn it's own slice of respect and prove it's worth in sporting newer, more innovative rides.
